Interior - Ovehead Console Lid Is Hard To open

2004-2006 RX-8 vehicles equipped with sunroof with VINs lower than JM1 FE**** ** 204221 (produced before March 11, 2006)

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles equipped with sunroofs may experience the overhead console lid hard to open at times. A burr may be present on the front edge of the overhead console housing, preventing the overhead console lid from opening.





As a mass-production change, this burr has been eliminated. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Ensure the housing fits tight into the headliner.

^ Push up and forward on the overhead console housing to ensure it is seated properly.





3. Remove the burr from the overhead console housing. Burr can be felt along the edge of overhead console housing using your finger with the lid open.

a. Open the lid.

b. Insert a steel file such as a fingernail file (thickness: 0.5 mm; width: 10 mm) and close the lid.

c. Move the file back and forth along the edge of the lid and the overhead console housing 4 or 5 times to remove the burr.





NOTE:
^ DO NOT insert the file more than 15 mm into the console, or damage to the overhead console housing may occur.

4. Verify repair.
