Attachment II - Inspection and Repair Procedures

A. VEHICLE INSPECTION PROCEDURE





1. Verify the vehicle is within one of the ranges shown.

- If the vehicle is within one of the above ranges, proceed to Step 2.

- If the vehicle is not within one of the above ranges, return the vehicle to the customer or inventory.








2. Perform a Warranty Vehicle Inquiry using your eMDCS System and inspect vehicle for an Authorized Modification Label Recall 2604L attached to the vehicle's bulkhead. Refer to eMDCS System - Warranty Vehicle Inquiry Results table shown.

NOTE:
Verify Recall number as the vehicle may have multiple Recalls.

B. SEAT BELT LABEL INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1. Shut off engine and remove key from ignition switch.

2. Remove both rear seat headrests.





3. Unbuckle rear seat center seat belt by inserting vehicle ignition key into access slot.





4. Lower rear seat backs by depressing left/right buttons on seat back latch releases.





5. Inspect ID No. printed on white labels attached to back side of left and right rear seat belts.

- If ID No. 3119, 3202, or 3300 IS FOUND on either left or right rear seat belt label, proceed to "C. SEAT BELT RETRACTOR INSPECTION PROCEDURE" for further inspection.

- If ID No. 3119, 3202, or 3300 IS NOT FOUND on either rear seat belt label, DO NOT REPLACE EITHER REAR SEAT BELT RETRACTOR. Proceed to "E. AUTHORIZED MODIFICATION LABEL INSTALLATION", then return vehicle to customer or vehicle inventory.

NOTE:
^ It is possible to have one (1) "good" seat belt retractor and one (1) "bad" seat belt retractor in the same vehicle.

^ It is not necessary to inspect center rear seat belt. Center rear seat belt is not included in this recall campaign.

C. SEAT BELT RETRACTOR INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1. Record customer's radio pre-set stations.

2. Disconnect negative side battery cable.





3. With rear seat back lowered, use a commercially available fork tool (Snap-on # UTV616 or equivalent) to detach both ends of rear seat latch cover. Insert fork tool and gently pry upward at locations "A" and "B".





4. Once cover tab is released, grasp cover and gently pull upward to remove.





5. Using fork tool or equivalent, detach anchor bracket cover by inserting fork tool and gently prying upward.





6. Sport Wagon Only: Remove both luggage compartment cover/net retainers by removing two (2) machine screws.

NOTE:
Cover/net retainer is only on driver side rear seat back.





7. Detach seat back cover by inserting hand between seat and cover; gently unsnap cover.

CAUTION:
The inner material of back cover is made of thin particle board. To prevent breakage, do not over-bend cover.

8. Position seat back cover upright.





9. Remove five (5) hog rings.





10. Unhook upholstery trim from seat frame anchor.





11. Unhook top upholstery trim from seat frame.





12. Unhook upholstery trim from seat frame.

13. Move seat back upright and latch it.

CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage seat back cover.





14. Remove seat back latch release cover with fiber stick or equivalent tool.

NOTE:
In the event of cover tab breakage, order a new cover.





15. Remove plastic seat belt retractor guide by removing one (1) Phillips head screw.





16. While holding upholstery trim and cushion out of the way, gain access to seat belt retractor cover.

CAUTION:
To prevent rear seat foam from ripping, do not over-bend cushion.

17. Remove two (2) Phillips head screws; remove cover.





18. Remove 17 mm seat belt retractor nut.





19. Once seat belt retractor is free, verify all three (3) plastic pins are present (as shown in "GOOD RETRACTOR" shown).

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

- IF ALL THREE (3) PLASTIC PINS ARE PRESENT. RETRACTOR IS "GOOD". DO NOT REPLACE RETRACTOR. Proceed to Step 20.

- IF ANY ONE OF THE THREE (3) PLASTIC PINS IS MISSING (AS SHOWN IN "BAD RETRACTOR" ABOVE) FROM SEAT BELT RETRACTOR. RETRACTOR IS "BAD" AND MUST BE REPLACED. Proceed to "D. REPAIR PROCEDURE".

NOTE:
^ When a plastic pin is missing, a hole will be seen completely through plastic housing and metal seat belt retractor frame.

^ Ignore large hole at bottom/left of retractor frame. Large hole is not part of inspection procedure.





20. Align and insert seat belt retractor metal tab to cut-out groove on seat frame.

WARNING:
Be sure seat belt(s) are not twisted. Twisted seat belts are dangerous. In a collision, the full width of the belt is not available to absorb the impact.

21. Reinstall seat belt retractor onto seat frame.

22. Reinstall 17 mm nut.

Tightening Torque: 38.24 - 78.45 Nm (29 - 57 ft. lbf.)

23. Reinstall (T-50) torx bolt to floorboard.

Tightening Torque: 32 - 44 Nm (24 - 32 ft. lbf.)

24. Reinstall other components in reverse order of removal.

25. If other side rear seat belt retractor was found to be "bad" according to "C. SEAT BELT RETRACTOR INSPECTION PROCEDURE", replace it according to "D. REPAIR PROCEDURE."

D. REPAIR PROCEDURE





1. Remove (T-50) torx bolt from floorboard.

2. Slide seat belt through seat frame.





3. Remove seat belt retractor from seat frame.





4. With new seat belt retractor, align and insert seat belt retractor metal tab to cut-out groove on seat frame.

WARNING:
Be sure seat belt(s) are not twisted. Twisted seat belts are dangerous. In a collision, the full width of the belt is not available to absorb the impact.

5. Install new seat belt retractor onto seat frame.

6. Reinstall 17 mm nut.

Tightening Torque: 38.24 - 78.45 Nm (29 - 57 ft. lbf.)

7. Reinstall (T-50) torx bolt to floorboard.

Tightening Torque: 32 - 44 Nm (24 - 32 ft. lbf.)

8. Reinstall other components in reverse order of removal.

9. If other side rear seat belt retractor was also found to be "bad" according to "C. SEAT BELT RETRACTOR INSPECTION PROCEDURE", replace it according to Steps 1-8 above.

10. Proceed to "E. AUTHORIZED MODIFICATION LABEL INSTALLATION."

E. AUTHORIZED MODIFICATION LABEL INSTALLATION

Complete an "Authorized Modification Label" with the Recall number written on the sticker and affix it to the vehicle's bulkhead. Refer back to the illustration under "A. VEHICLE INSPECTION PROCEDURE."
