Body - Trunk Lid Difficult to Open

09-043/04 2004 MAZDA3 (4-DOOR ONLY) - TRUNK LID DIFFICULT TO OPEN

DESCRIPTION

When opening the trunk with the key cylinder or release lever, the lift up clearance between the trunk and bumper may be inadequate for inserting a hand. This makes the trunk lid difficult to open.

To correct this concern, the shape of the trunk lid lock and striker has been changed to increase the lift up clearance.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify concern.

2. Replace the trunk lid latch and lock striker with modified parts according to Workshop Manual (section 09-14 TRUNK LID LATCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION and TRUNK LID LOCK STRIKER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

3. Verify repair.





PART(S) INFORMATION

NOTE:
The new trunk lid lock and striker must be installed as a pair, you must change out both the lock and striker with modified parts for them to work properly together.
