2004 MAZDA3 - LOOSE DOOR TRIM SCREW CAP

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may have a door trim screw cap that is loose and stays open. During production, the cap may deform and will not stay closed.





To prevent tab from deforming, the shape has been changed. The screw cap is now modified and also available separately as a service part

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE:
It is no longer necessary to replace the door trim assembly to repair the concern.

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Record radio preset stations.

3. Set ignition to LOCK position.

4. Remove door trim according to the workshop manual (section 09-17 FRONT DOOR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

5. From the back of the door trim, cut tab off.





NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the cap installation hole on the door trim.








6. Install the modified screw cap in the door trim.

7. Re-install the door trim.

8. Reconnect negative battery cable and program radio stations and clock.

9. Verify repair.
