APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2003-2004 Mazda6 vehicles with 2.3L engine produced before May 1, 2004 mass-production
DESCRIPTION
Some 2.3L Mazda6 vehicles may experience MIL illumination with DTCs P0300 - P0304 stored in memory, or rough idle with no DTCs. These conditions may be caused by fouled spark plugs as a result of repeated start-ups and short distance driving.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired according to the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
FOR CUSTOMER OWNED VEHICLES:
1. Verify concern.
2. Remove all spark plugs.
3. Inspect spark plugs for fouling.
^ If spark plugs are fouled, replace with modified spark plugs.
^ If spark plugs are not fouled, refer to Workshop Manual for troubleshooting information.
4. Verify repair.
FOR NEW/INVENTORY VEHICLES:
5. Verify concern.
6. Remove all spark plugs.
7. Inspect spark plugs for fouling.
^ If spark plugs are fouled, proceed to step 4.
^ If spark plugs are not fouled, refer to Workshop Manual for troubleshooting information.
8. Allow spark plugs to air dry.
9. Clean spark plugs with brake cleaner.
10. Reinstall spark plugs.
11. Verify repair.
