Engine - Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch: Testing and Inspection

ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR INSPECTION

Inspection of Output Voltage

1. Disconnect the PCM connector.

2. Connect the SST (104 Pin Breakout Box) to the PCM as shown.
3. Tighten the connector bolt.

Tightening torque: 7.9 - 10.7 N.m {80 - 100 kgf.cm, 69.5 - 95.4 in.lbf}

4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

Specification:

5. Measure the voltage at PCM terminal 38.
- If not as specified, check the related harness and engine coolant temperature sensor resistance.

Inspection of Resistance

1. Remove the engine coolant temperature sensor.
2. Place the engine coolant temperature sensor in water with a thermometer, and heat the water gradually.

3. Measure the resistance of the sensor using an ohmmeter.
- If not as specified, replace the engine coolant temperature sensor.

Tightening torque: 15.7 - 23.5 N.m {1.6 - 2.4 kgf.m, 11.6 - 17.3 ft.lbf}
