Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Testing and Inspection

MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR INSPECTION

1. Check the mass air flow sensor for damage and cracks.
- If there is damage or cracks, replace mass air flow sensor.

2. Disconnect the PCM connector.

3. Connect the SST (104 Pin Breakout Box) to the PCM as shown.
4. Tighten the connector bolt.

Tightening torque: 7.9 - 10.7 N.m {80 - 110 kgf.cm, 69.5 - 95.4 in.lbf}

Specification:

5. Measure the voltage at the PCM terminal 88 as shown in the table.
- If not as specified, perform the MAF sensor circuit open/short inspection.

a. Harness continuity
- Between PCM terminal 88 and mass airflow sensor terminal E
- Between PCM terminal 36 and mass airflow sensor terminal D
- Between PCM terminal 76 and mass airflow sensor terminal C
- Between main relay terminal E and mass air flow sensor terminal B

b. Terminal voltage
- Mass air flow sensor terminal B voltage: Battery positive voltage
- Mass air flow sensor terminal C voltage: Below 1.0 V

6. If the terminal voltage is correct and there is harness continuity, replace the mass air flow sensor.

Specification:

MAF Rate and Load Value

NOTE: The scan total shows the mass air flow rate and load value.
