Side Air Bag Module

SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION






WARNING:
- Handling the air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS before handling the air bag module.
- If the side air bag module is installed with a foreign body in the seat back, the debris may be scattered when the side air bag module operates (deploys), causing injury. Verify that there is no debris in the seat back before installing the side air bag module.


1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for more than 1 minute.
3. Remove the front seat.
4. Remove the side cover.
5. Remove the harness tie wraps.




6. Remove the harness clips.




7. Unzip the hog rings.




8. Unzip the seat back trim.




9. Remove the harness tie wraps.




10. Remove the hog rings.
11. Turn the seat back cushion over.




12. Remove the nuts to remove the side air bag module.

WARNING: If the air bag harness is not secured at the marked point or the harness is caught, the side air bag module may fail to operate (deploy) in an accident, causing a serious accident. Be sure to secure the air bag harness at the marked point, and make sure the harness is not caught during operation the seat.

13. Install in the reverse order of removal.
14. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
15. Verify that the air bag system warning light illuminates for approximately 6 seconds and then goes off.
- If the air bag system warning light does not operate in the manner described above, there are malfunctions in the system. Inspect the system using the on-board diagnostic. (See FOREWORD.)
