Main Fuel Pump
FUEL PUMP INSPECTION1. Connect the data link connector terminals F/P and GND by using a jumper wire.
2. Remove the filler cap.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Listen for fuel pump operation sound at the filler inlet.
4. If no sound was heard, measure the voltage at fuel pump connector terminal B by using a voltmeter.
Specification: Battery voltage (Ignition ON)
5. Disconnect the jumper wire.
6. If not as specified, inspect the fuel pump relay.
7. If the fuel pump relay is normal, check continuity between the following.
- Ignition switch and main relay
- Main relay and fuel pump relay
- Fuel pump relay and fuel pump
- Fuel pump
Continuity Inspection
1. Remove the hole cover.
2. Disconnect the fuel pump connector.
3. Check for continuity between fuel pump connector terminals B and D by using an ohmmeter.
4. If there is no continuity, replace the fuel pump.
Fuel Pump Maximum Pressure Testing
WARNING: Fuel line spills and leaks are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes. To prevent this, complete the "Fuel Pressure Release Procedure".
Fuel Pressure Release
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Connect a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel pump and plug the outlet of the gauge as shown in the figure.
3. Connect the negative battery cable.
4. Connect the data link connector terminals F/P and GND by using a jumper wire.
5. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and measure the fuel pump pressure.
Specification: 500-630 kPa (72-93 psi)
6. Turn off the ignition switch and disconnect the jumper wire.
7. If not as specified, replace the fuel pump.
Fuel Pump Hold Inspection
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Connect a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel pump and plug the outlet of the gauge as shown in the figure.
3. Connect the negative battery cable.
4. Connect the data link connector terminals F/P and GND by using a jumper wire.
5. Turn the ignition switch to ON for approx. 10 sec.to operate the fuel pump.
6. Turn off the ignition switch. Wait for 5 min., and measure the fuel pressure.
Specification: More than 150 kPa (21 psi)
7. Disconnect the jumper wire.
8. If not as specified, replace the fuel pump.
