Ignition Timing: Testing and Inspection

Ignition Timing Control Inspection
1. Connect a timing light to the engine.
2. Crank the engine.
3. Verify that the yellow timing mark on the crankshaft pulley and the mark on the timing belt cover are aligned.

Specification: BTDC 9°- 11°

4. If the marks are not aligned, remove the ignition coil bracket and push the ignition coil aside for easy access. Then, loosen the camshaft position sensor lock bolts, and turn the camshaft position sensor to make the adjustment.
5. If adjustment by turning the camshaft position sensor is not possible, check the following.
- Crankshaft position sensor
- Ignition control module related wiring harnesses and connectors.
