System Inspection
Fuel Pressure InspectionWARNING: Fuel line spills and leaks are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and prevent. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes. To prevent this, always complete the "Fuel Pressure Release Procedure".
Fuel Pressure Release
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Connect a fuel pressure gauge between the fuel main pipe fuel main hose (install clamps as shown).
3. Connect the negative battery cable.
4. Connect the data link connector terminals F/P and GND by using a jumper wire.
5. Turn the ignition switch to ON and measure the fuel line pressure.
Specification: 265-313 kPa (39-45 psi)
6. Turn off the ignition switch and disconnect the jumper wire.
7. If the pressure is higher than specified, check the fuel pump maximum pressure. If normal, check the pressure regulator and fuel return hose.
8. If the pressure is lower than specified, measure the fuel line pressure while pinching the return hose.
- If the fuel line pressure quickly increases, check the pressure regulator and PRC solenoid valve.
- If fuel line pressure gradually increases, check the fuel pump maximum pressure. If the fuel pump maximum pressure is normal, check the fuel line between fuel pump and pressure regulator for clog.
Fuel Pressure Hold Inspection
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Connect a fuel pressure gauge between the fuel main pipe (high pressure side) and fuel main hose (install clamp as shown).
3. Connect the negative battery cable.
4. Connect the data link connector terminals F/P and GND by using a jumper wire.
5. Turn the ignition switch to ON for approx. 10 sec. to operate the fuel pump.
6. Turn off the ignition switch and disconnect the jumper wire.
7. Observe the fuel pressure after 5 min.
Specification: More than 147 kPa (21 psi)
8. If the pressure is lower than specified, measure the fuel line pressure while pinching the return hose.
- If the fuel line pressure holds, replace the pressure regulator.
- If the fuel line pressure does not hold, check the fuel pump fuel pressure hold. If the fuel pump fuel pressure hold is normal, check for fuel leaks from fuel line and fuel injectors.
9. If the pressure is as specified, check for fuel leakage from fuel line and fuel injectors.
