The MIL can only be used to access diagnostic trouble codes if system malfunctions are not currently causing the lamp to illuminate.
1. Using a suitable jumper wire, connect diagnostic connector TBS terminal to ground, Fig. 16, then place ignition switch in On position.
2. MIL will illuminate for three seconds, then display any stored diagnostic trouble codes. Refer to Fig. 17 for an example of MIL diagnostic trouble code display.
3. If one or more diagnostic trouble codes are displayed, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code Interpretation for further information regarding specific diagnostic trouble codes.
