DESCRIPTION

The MIL may illuminate with code P1407 stored in memory. This problem will usually occur in colder climates and is caused by the combination of ice build-up in the EGR vacuum line and the PCM reading of EGR flow early in the drive cycle. A modified PCM calibration is available which will correct this concern.

Customers complaining of this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.

Note
^ This is the same calibration and NGS Reprogram Card used to repair a DTC P0421 concern. See revised Service Bulletin F 005/98.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer complaint.

2. Inspect the vehicle for and Authorized Modification Label indicating that the vehicle has already been reprogrammed with the latest calibration for DTC P1407 and P0421.
If the label is present, contact the Technical Assistance Hotline.
If the label is not present, proceed to Step 3.

3. Use the flowchart above to reprogram the PCM.
