System Inspection

Using Tachometer
1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature and let it idle.
2. Shift the selector lever to P.
3. Turn off all electrical loads.
- Headlight
- Blower motor
- Rear window defroster
- Power steering
- A/C
4. Connect the tachometer to the data link connector terminal IG-.
5. Verify that the coolant fan is not operating.
6. Verify that the idle speed is within specification.

Specification: 600-700 (650 ± 50) rpm

7. If not as specified, adjust the idle speed.
8. Verify that the idle speed is within specification with the load condition as shown below.

Specification
9. If not as specified when A/C is ON, inspect the bypass air control system.
10. If not as specified at all load conditions, check related in put switches and idle air control valve.

Using SST-New Generation Star Tester (NGS)

1. Connect the SST to the data link connector-2.
2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature and let it idle.
3. Shift the selector lever to P.
4. Turn off all electrical loads.
- Headlight
- Blower motor
- Rear window defroster
- Power steering
- A/C
5. Verify that the coolant fan is not operating.

6. Select the PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD function of the NGS. Select "RPM" on the NGS display. NGS measures and shows the idle speed.

Specification
7. If not as specified when A/C is ON, inspect the bypass air control system.

8. If not as specified at all load conditions, use the SIMULATION TEST function to set the ISC duty value at random, and check if the idle speed changes.
9. If idle speed changes, check related input switches. If idle speed does not change, inspect the idle air control valve.
