Transaxle Range Switch (ATX)


FUNCTIONAL TEST
1. Verify that the starter operates only with the ignition switch at the START position and the selector lever in P or N position.
2. Verify that the back-up lights illuminate when shifted to R position with the ignition switch in the ON position.
3. Check the transaxle range switch if not as specified.

CONTINUITY TEST
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the resonance duct and the air cleaner housing assembly.
3. Disconnect the transaxle range switch connector.

4. Check continuity of the transaxle range switch.
5. If not as specified, replace or adjust the transaxle range switch.
6. Connect the transaxle range switch connector.
7. Install the air cleaner housing assembly and the resonance duct.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.

SIGNAL (INPUT TO ECM) TEST
1. Connect the special service tools (SST) to the engine control module (ECM).

Connect Special Service Tools As Shown:





2. Connect the SST engine signal monitor between the ECM and the vehicle's ECM connector by using the SST adapter harness.

3. Place the SST engine signal sheet overlay on the SST engine signal monitor.
4. Turn ignition switch ON.
5. Measure voltage at ECM terminal 1V.

Park or Neutral gear range:--0.0 Volts.
Other gear ranges:--Battery Positive Voltage.

6. If signal is not as specified check the following:
- Transaxle range switch, wiring between switch and transaxle control module (TCM). TCM input terminal (from P/N switch) is 2B.
- Wiring between TCM output terminal 1D to ECM input terminal 1V.
7. Repair or replace failed components/wiring as necessary.
