POSSIBLE CAUSECode 51 indicates that the diagnostic module has opened its non-serviceable internal fuse and that the conditions which caused the open fuse are no longer present. Code 51 will also set if code 13 was set and the conditions that caused code 13 have been repaired, but the module has not been replaced. Code 51 can also indicate an intermittent short in the air bag deployment circuit.
REMEDY
If repairs were made for a code 13, replace the diagnostic module. If an intermittent short is suspected, visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors for damage. If this is not successful, try to induce the intermittent (wiggle harness, connectors, etc.). Since code 13 will set if the fault is induced, follow the procedures for repairing code 13.
