Fuel Pump Relay: Description and Operation

The Circuit Opening Relay, located under the right kick panel adjacent to the ECU, is a component of the fuel system. When the airflow meter flap moves in response to incoming air induced by engine cranking, it closes a switch which energizes the relay. The relay in turn supplies operating voltage to the electric fuel pump. As a safety feature, the relay is only energized when the engine is running or being cranked by the starter motor.
