Pinpoint Test C: The Left Or Right Exterior Mirror Blind Spot Information System (BLIS(TM)) /Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) LED Is C

Blind Spot Monitoring

Pinpoint Test C: The Left Or Right Exterior Mirror Blind Spot Information System (BLIS(TM)) /Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) LED Is Constantly On And A Message In The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Message Center Is Present, But No DTCs Are Recorded

Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 136, Vehicle Emergency Messageing System for schematic and connector information. [1][2]Diagrams By Number

NOTE: The Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) system customer ON/OFF feature in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) is not available on early build hybrid vehicles.

Normal Operation

On each ignition cycle, the Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right (SOD-R) and Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left (SOD-L) run a self diagnostic check during which the exterior mirror Blind Spot Information System (BLIS(TM)) /CTA (Cross Traffic Alert) LEDs illuminate for 3 seconds then turn off indicating the system is operational. The CTA (Cross Traffic Alert) system is enabled when the ignition switch is in the RUN position and the REVERSE (R) gear is selected. For non-hybrid and late build hybrid vehicles, the system can be turned on and off through the message center, which is part of the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster).

The SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) and SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) receive a PRNDL gear input and a vehicle speed signal message from the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) through the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN). The CTA (Cross Traffic Alert) system, SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) and SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) send a message through the MS-CAN (Medium Speed Controller Area Network) to the Parking Aid Module (PAM) to signal an audible tone to alert the driver.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left)

- SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right)

- Parking Aid Module (PAM)

PINPOINT TEST C : THE LEFT OR RIGHT EXTERIOR MIRROR BLIS(TM) (Blind Spot Information System) /CTA (Cross Traffic Alert) LED IS CONSTANTLY ON AND A MESSAGE IN THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) MESSAGE CENTER IS PRESENT, BUT NO DTCs ARE RECORDED

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

C1 VERIFY THE SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) AND SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) PASS THE NETWORK TEST

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.

- Verify that the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) and SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) pass the network test.

Do the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) and SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) pass the network test?

Yes
GO to C2.

No
For SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) , REFER to Information Bus, The SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool.

For SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) , GO to Pinpoint Test E. Pinpoint Test E: The Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right (SOD-R) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool Or Cannot Be Conf

C2 CHECK FOR VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL DTCs

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) CMDTCs.

- Check for correct operation of the speedometer in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster).

Are vehicle speed display faults and DTCs related to vehicle speed present?

Yes
REFER to Body Control Systems for a list of all DTCs.

No
GO to C3.

C3 CHECK FOR PRNDL DTCs

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) CMDTCs.

- Check for correct operation of the PRNDL in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster).

Are PRNDL display faults and DTCs related to the PRNDL present?

Yes
REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.

No
For a BLIS(TM) (Blind Spot Information System) fault, GO to Pinpoint Test A. Pinpoint Test A: The Blind Spot Information System (BLIS(TM)) Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly Or Poor Performance And

For a CTA (Cross Traffic Alert) system fault, GO to C4.

C4 CHECK FOR PAM (Parking Aid Module) DTCs

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: PAM (Parking Aid Module) CMDTCs.

- Check DTCs in the PAM (Parking Aid Module).

Are DTCs present?

Yes
REFER to Collision Avoidance and Parking Assist Systems.

No
GO to Pinpoint Test B. Pinpoint Test B: The Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) System Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly Or Poor Performance And No Warn
