Instrument Cluster
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC)The instrument cluster (IC) contains a message center, gauges, indicator lamps, engine idle hour meter (Limousine only) and warning lamps that are designed to provide the driver with a system status and to alert the driver that certain conditions exist in the vehicle. The message center features include the odometer, trip odometer, and information display. The information display occupies either the top 2 or top 3 lines of the message center depending on the font size chosen. These displays are independent of other messages with the exception of the redundant odometer which is shown on the bottom portion of the message center.
Gauges
Gauges provide information to the driver indicating the status of systems. Examples of systems that use gauges include: vehicle speed, fuel level, engine coolant temperature (ECT), and engine rpm.
Informational Indicators
Indicator lamps provide information to the driver of conditions that exist in the vehicle. Examples of the indicator lamps include: turn signal, speed control, and high beams on.
Warning Indicators
Warning indicator lamps provide information to the driver of conditions that could potentially alter vehicle performance. Examples of the warning indicators include: ABS, BRAKE, safety belt, and low oil pressure. The instrument cluster (IC) lens and mask assembly is the only part that may be installed separately. For the message center functions, refer to Driver/Vehicle Information Display.
Severity Indicator
The severity indicator illuminates and changes color when certain conditions exist. The severity indicator turns red when the following conditions exist:
- Low oil pressure
- Charging system concern
- Engine over-temperature
- Door ajar
The severity indicator turns amber when a low fuel condition exists.
