Removal
WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, safety canopy or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.
1. Remove the affected seat.
2. WARNING: Front seat backrest trim covers installed on seats equipped with seat side air bags cannot be repaired. A new trim cover must be installed. Cleaning is permissible. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side air bag module deploying incorrectly and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
Release the seat backrest trim cover J-clips.
- Release the lower J-clip first and then release the 2 side J-clips.
3. Access and disconnect the electrical connector at the wiring harness.
4. Remove and discard the 2 rivets. Remove the lumbar motor.
5. Release the lumbar assembly from the bottom of the seat backrest frame.
6. Access the upper backrest frame area from between the foam pad, detach the lumbar assembly from the top of the backrest frame and remove.
Installation
1. Install the lumbar assembly.
- Access the upper area of the backrest frame and attach the lumbar assembly to the frame from between the foam pad.
- Attach the bottom of the lumbar assembly to the lower backrest frame retainer and route the cable and motor into position.
2. Install the lumbar motor and 2 new rivets.
3. Connect the lumbar motor electrical connector.
4. NOTE: Note the alignment of the 2 side J-clips at the top of the seat to avoid bunching of the trim cover material.
Attach the seat backrest trim cover J-clips.
- Attach the 2 side J-clips first and then attach the lower J-clip.
5. Install the affected seat.
