Inspection and Verification1. Verify the customer concern.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

NOTE: For multifunction switch concerns, refer to one of the following:
^ Exterior Lighting
^ Wipers and Washers
3. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
^ check that the program card is correctly installed.
^ check the connections to the vehicle.
^ check the ignition switch position.
4. Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
^ CAN, SCP or ISO circuit fault; all electronic control units no response/not equipped; Refer to Information Bus
^ No response/not equipped for the front electronic module (FEM); Refer to Body Control Systems
^ No response/not equipped for the instrument cluster module (ICM); Refer to Inst.Gauges, Warn Ind.
5. If DTC's are present, refer to Body Control Systems for FEM-related DTC's, or; Refer to Inst; Gauges, Warn Ind. for ICM-related DTC's.
6. If no DTC's are present, GO to Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Steering Column Switches
