The power seats have the following features:
- horizontal, vertical and front and rear tilt adjustments
- power recline
- power lumbar (if equipped)
- heat (if equipped)
- front seat backrest head restraint
The LH front seat is also programmable to two different driver positions and has an easy entry/easy exit feature. Memory is not available on Executive series.
The front 20 percent seat has the following features:
- NOTE: Refer to Seat Armrest - Front for the sequence of steps needed for the removal and installation of the seat armrest lid.
Center console lid that opens in two directions
- cup holder that is built into the cushion
- telephone docking station in console (if equipped)
- seat backrest impact locking pin (keeps the seat backrest locked in the vertical position, in the event of a collision)
Occupant Classification Sensor
CAUTION:
- If installing only the front passenger seat cushion trim cover, the seat occupant classification sensor (OCS) must be rezeroed.
- The following precautions must be taken before rezeroing of the OCS system.
- Make sure the OCS system components are connected and no faults are present.
- Make sure the vehicle has not been exposed to temperatures below 6°C (42°F) or above 36°C (97°F) within four hours prior to the rezeroing process. If the vehicle has been exposed to temperatures outside the temperature limits (6-36°C), the vehicle must be exposed to and kept at a temperature within the limits for minimum of four hours.
- Make sure nothing is present on the passenger seat before rezeroing and nothing is placed on the seat during the rezeroing process.
- Make sure a minimum five second time period has passed after cycling the ignition switch ON before the rezeroing process.
NOTE:
- The occupant classification sensor is found only on the front passenger seat and is not equipped on all vehicles. A white tag having the letters "OCS" (occupant classification sensor) will appear under the front of the passenger seat to identify a seat equipped with an occupant classification sensor.
- It is necessary to rezero the OCS system when a front passenger seat cushion is disassembled, a new trim cover installed, or an OCS service kit is installed. A scan tool is used to trigger the active command to carry out rezeroing of the OCS system.
- When using a New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester, the OCS system rezero function is on the Ford Service Function (red) card. To rezero the OCS system:
- select "SERVICE BAY FUNCTIONS"
- select "RCM"
- select "SYSTEM RESET"
- select the vehicle from the menu
- view the on-screen information then press "TRIGGER"
The NGS screen will then display "OCS RESET: REZERO." Press "DONE" (button 8) to rezero the OCS system. The NGS will return to the vehicle menu once rezeroing of the OCS system is complete.
NOTE: To rezero the OCS system using the Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS):
- select the "Toolbox" icon
- select "Body" from the menu
- select "Restraints" from the menu
- select "Seat Weight Sensor ReZero"
After selecting "Seat Weight Sensor ReZero", follow the on-screen prompts to carry out rezeroing of the OCS system.
NOTE: If the first attempt to rezero the OCS system is unsuccessful, a second attempt must be made.
The seat occupant classification sensor system is found only on the front passenger seat. The OCS system components (seat cushion foam pad, bladder, bladder with pressure sensor and electronic control unit) are calibrated to each other and are serviced as an assembly. OCS system components are not to be installed separately. If installing a new OCS system, OCS system component or seat cushion foam pad, a new OCS system service kit (seat cushion foam pad, bladder, bladder with pressure sensor and electronic control unit) must be installed as an assembly.
Lumbar Support
The seat has electro-mechanical front seat backrest pad adjuster. The lumbar switch adjustment is on the front inboard.
Power Recliner
The power recliner is incorporated into the inertia front seat backrest latch. The power recliner tilts the seat backrest backward or forward and is controlled by the seat regulator control switch.
The power recliner cannot be serviced separately. If the power recliner needs to be serviced, the entire front seat backrest latch must be installed new.
Heated
Each heated seat is controlled by a switch on the door trim panel.
The heated seat system:
- will have two heated seat modules on early build vehicles; one mounted underneath each front outboard seat cushion pan.
- will have one heated seat module on late build vehicles, attached to the inside of the passenger front door trim panel.
- will only operate with the ignition switch in RUN.
- will operate with battery voltage as low as 9 volts.
- will maintain a temperature automatically once it is selected.
- will heat to the selected temperature each time the ignition switch is turned to RUN if the heated seat is not switched OFF.
Driver Seat Module
The driver seat module is attached to the driver seat track.
Easy Entry/Easy Exit
The easy entry/easy exit feature of the driver seat moves the seat two inches back when the ignition key is removed.
The easy entry/easy exit feature of the driver seat moves the seat two inches forward when:
- the ignition switch is turned to RUN.
- the driver door is opened, then closed.
Programmable
The memory seat system allows the recall of previously stored positions of the driver seat using the remote keyless entry transmitter or the memory set/recall switch located on the door panel.
Memory Seat Position Sensors
On vehicles with a driver memory seat, the driver power seat track is equipped with memory seat position sensors for the horizontal, front up/down, and rear up/down directions. The memory seat position sensors are located on each of the seat track motors and are serviced separately from the power seat track assembly. The driver memory seat also has a memory seat position sensor for the backrest recliner. This sensor is serviced as an assembly with the motor and recliner mechanism.
After installing a new memory seat position sensor, the driver seat must be cycled full range of travel to zero that sensor. For example, if only a new horizontal memory seat position sensor was installed, position the seat all the way forward and then backward.
Side Air Bag
Driver and passenger side air bags are attached to the seat backrest frame. For diagnostic information or if the side air bag has been deployed, refer to Air Bag Systems.
Front seat backrest trim covers installed on seats with side air bags cannot be repaired. The front seat backrest trim covers are to be installed new. Cleaning is permissible.
If a side air bag deployment took place, a new seat back pad, trim cover and side air bag module must be installed. Install a new seat back frame, if necessary.
Rear
Heated
Cartier L rear seats are equipped with the heated seat system at the driver and passenger side positions.
Each heated seat is controlled by a switch on the rear door trim panel.
The heated seat system:
- will only operate with the ignition switch in RUN.
- will operate with battery voltage as low as 9 volts.
- will automatically maintain a temperature once it is selected.
- will heat to the selected temperature each time the ignition switch is turned to RUN if the heated seat is not switched OFF.
Rear Seat Armrest - Cartier L and Executive L
An amenities package for these vehicles features a rear seat armrest with storage bin, Kleenex holder and dual power points. The Cartier L and Executive L version also includes redundant front passenger fore/aft seat control and audio/climate controls.
