Removal and Installation
INSTRUMENT PANELREMOVAL
CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. Avoid exposing any modules to static electrical charges, as this may cause damage to the modules.
1. Remove the driver air bag module.
2. Remove the passenger side air bag module.
3. Through the glove compartment opening, remove the instrument panel support brace bolt.
4. Close the glove compartment door.
5. Position the speed control servo aside.
1 Disconnect the electrical connector.
2 Remove the nuts.
6. Loosen the bolt and disconnect the LH bulkhead connector.
7. Release the LH bulkhead connector from the dash panel.
8. Disconnect the RH engine compartment in-line wiring harness connectors.
9. Remove the RH splash shield.
10. Release the wiring harness retaining strap from the dash panel.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Remove the LH and RH instrument panel lower insulators.
13. Unseat the wiring grommet and feed the wiring harness through the dash panel.
14. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels.
15. Remove the LH and RH windshield side garnish moldings.
16. Disconnect the antenna cable in-line connector.
17. Remove the RH ground bolts.
18. Disconnect the RH wiring harness electrical connectors.
19. Loosen the bolt and disconnect the RH bulkhead connector.
20. Position the LH and RH door weatherstrip seals aside.
21. Remove the two pin-type retainers and the tunnel brace trim cover.
22. NOTE: LH shown, RH similar.
Remove the eight nuts and the two instrument panel tunnel braces.
23. Remove the LH ground bolts.
24. Disconnect the LH wiring harness connectors.
25. Disconnect the parking brake release vacuum connector.
26. Disconnect the vacuum connector.
27. Remove the nut and position the steering column brace aside.
28. Remove and discard the pinch bolt and separate the intermediate shaft from the steering column shaft.
29. Disconnect the transmission shift cable from the steering column.
1 Disconnect the cable from the steering column shift tube lever.
2 Disconnect the cable from the steering column bracket.
30. Remove the instrument panel defroster opening grille.
31. Remove the four instrument panel cowl top screws.
32. Remove the RH instrument panel cowl side nut.
33. Remove the upper LH instrument panel cowl side nut.
34. Remove the lower LH instrument panel cowl side bolt.
35. NOTE: Removing the instrument panel from the vehicle requires an assistant.
Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. Avoid exposing any modules to static electrical charges, as this may cause damage to the modules.
1. NOTE: Installation of the instrument panel into the vehicle requires an assistant.
Install the instrument panel into the vehicle.
2. Install the lower LH instrument panel cowl side bolt.
3. Install the upper LH instrument panel cowl side nut.
4. Install the RH instrument panel cowl side nut.
5. Install the four instrument panel cowl top screws.
6. Install the instrument panel defroster opening grille.
7. Connect the transmission shift cable to the steering column.
1 Connect the cable to the steering column bracket.
2 Connect the cable to the steering column shift tube lever.
8. Connect the intermediate shaft to the steering column shaft and install a new pinch bolt.
9. Install the steering column brace.
1 Position the steering column brace.
2 Install the nut.
10. Connect the vacuum connector.
11. Connect the parking brake release vacuum connector.
12. Connect the LH wiring harness connectors.
13. Install the LH ground bolts.
14. NOTE: LH shown, RH similar.
Install the eight nuts and the two instrument panel tunnel braces.
15. Position the tunnel brace trim cover and install the two pin-type retainers.
16. Install the LH and RH door weatherstrip seals.
17. Connect the RH bulkhead connector.
- Tighten the bolt.
18. Connect the RH wiring harness electrical connectors.
19. Install the RH ground bolts.
20. Connect the antenna cable in-line connector.
21. NOTE: LH shown, RH similar.
Install the LH and RH windshield side garnish moldings.
22. NOTE: LH shown, RH similar.
Install the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels.
23. Feed the wiring harness through the dash panel and seat the wiring grommet.
24. Install the LH and RH instrument panel lower insulators.
25. Connect the RH engine compartment in-line wiring harness connectors.
26. Raise the vehicle.
27. Connect the wiring harness retainer to the dash panel.
28. Install the RH splash shield.
29. Clip the LH bulkhead connector into the dash panel.
30. Connect the LH bulkhead connector.
- Tighten the bolt.
31. Position the speed control servo.
1 Install the nuts.
2 Connect the electrical connector.
32. Open the glove compartment door.
33. Through the glove compartment opening, install the instrument panel support brace bolt.
34. Install the passenger side air bag module.
35. Install the drive air bag module.
