Removal and Installation
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATIONSpecial Tools And Equipment:
Special Tool(s)
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position on a hoist.
2. Remove the rear halfshafts.
3. Disconnect the driveshaft from the rear axle flange. Support the driveshaft at the center and rear.
4. Position a suitable hydraulic jack to the axle housing. Securely strap the jack to the housing.
5. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration and table.

6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
7. Fill the axle with the specified quantity of the specified lubricant.
Item 6: Pinion Nose Isolator Bushing Removal Note
1. Using the special tool, remove and discard the bushing.
Item 9: Rear Axle Assembly Isolator Bushing Removal Note
1. Using the special tool, draw the isolator from the frame pocket.
Item 9: Rear Axle Assembly Isolator Bushing Installation Note
1. Using the special tool, draw the isolator into the frame pocket.
^ Install the isolator with the rubber legs positioned vertically.
Item 6: Pinion Nose Isolator Bushing Installation Note
1. Insert the rear axle differential pinion nose isolator bushing and make sure the notches are aligned 45° from a forward and aft location.
2. Using the special tool, install the rear axle differential pinion nose isolator bushing.
