HARSH 2-3 UPSHIFT - TRANSMISSION 5R55S -
VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO 5/4/2004
LINCOLN: 2004 LS
ISSUE
Some 2004 Lincoln LS vehicles built prior to 5/4/2004 equipped with a 3.0L engine and 5R55S automatic transmission may exhibit a harsh 2-3 upshift.
ACTION
Verify that the vehicle was built prior to 5/4/2004 and exhibits this condition. Reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration using WDS release B31.9 or higher. Calibration files may also be obtained. If the condition is not corrected after reprogramming, continue with normal diagnostics to pinpoint the cause. Refer to the following Service Procedure when reprogramming the PCM.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
NOTE
STEPS 2C-2F OF THIS PROCEDURE MUST BE PERFORMED IN SEQUENCE FOR THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGEMENT PRESSURES TO ADAPT PROPERLY.
1. Reprogram the PCM to latest calibration level.
2. After reprogramming is completed, the transmission adaptive strategy for pressure control on engagements must be updated.
a. Install diagnostic equipment and monitor the transmission fluid temperature (TFT).
b. Warm transmission fluid to at least 130°F (54°C) as indicated by the TFT.
c. Perform five (5) engagements from Park to Reverse. Each engagement must be five (5) seconds apart.
d. Perform five (5) engagements from Drive to Reverse. Each engagement must be five (5) seconds apart.
e. Perform five (5) engagements from Reverse to Drive. Each engagement must be five (5) seconds apart.
f. Perform five (5) engagements from Neutral to Drive. Each engagement must be five (5) seconds apart.
