Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the rear view mirrors to duplicate the concern.

Visual Inspection Chart:

2. Inspect the components of the rear view mirror systems to determine if any of the mechanical or electrical concerns apply:
3. If the inspection reveals obvious concerns that can be readily identified, repair as necessary.
4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not power up:
- check that the program card is correctly installed.
- check the connections to the vehicle.
- check the ignition switch position.

If the diagnostic tool still does not power up, refer to the diagnostic tool manual.

5. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS TEST using the diagnostic tool. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
1 CKT914 or CKT915 = ALL MODULE NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to the Communication System Diagnostics in Module Communications Network (Information Bus) to diagnose the network concern.
2 NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for Driver Door Module (DDM), GO to Pinpoint Test A. Test A: No Communication With the Driver Door Module-Unable to Carry Out the Driver Door Module Self-Test
3 NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for Driver Seat Module (DSM), GO to Pinpoint Test B. Test B: No Communication With the Driver Seat Module-Unable to Carry Out the Driver Seat Module Self-Test
4 If the DDM is not listed for a communication concern, turn the ignition switch to RUN, make sure all doors are closed, retrieve and record the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, then execute the Self Test Diagnostics for the DDM. If the DDM exits diagnostic state during the self-test and returns to normal operation state, GO to Pinpoint Test A. Test A: No Communication With the Driver Door Module-Unable to Carry Out the Driver Door Module Self-Test
5 If the DSM is not listed for a communication concern, turn the ignition switch to RUN, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, then execute the Self Test Diagnostics for the DSM. If the DSM exits the diagnostic state during the self-test and returns to a normal operating state, GO to Pinpoint Test B. Test B: No Communication With the Driver Seat Module-Unable to Carry Out the Driver Seat Module Self-Test
6. If the DDM DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Driver Door Module (DDM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue the diagnostics. Driver Door Module (DDM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index
7. If the DSM DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Driver Seat Module (DSM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue the diagnostics. Driver Seat Module (DSM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index
8. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to the Symptom Chart to continue the diagnostics. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
