LOSS OF AUTOLOCK AND/OR RKE HORN CHIRP CONFIRMATION

LINCOLN:
2001-2002 Town Car

ISSUE

Some Town Car vehicles may exhibit a loss of the motion-based Autolock feature and/or loss of the Horn Chirp locking confirmation provided when the vehicle is locked with one of the remote transmitters (key fobs).

ACTION

To service, first use a diagnostic scan tool (such as NGS/WDS) to read the module ID information for the driver door module (DDM). Record the software date code, which is located below the part number on the screen.

^ If the DDM software date code is 6/9/2004, the module already contains the software fix for this issue. Refer to 2002 Workshop Manual Section 501 - 14B (Keyless Entry/Computer Operated Locks) for further diagnosis of the customer complaint.

^ If the DDM software date code is earlier than 6/9/2004, replace the DDM and reprogram all remote transmiffers owned by the customer. Refer to 2002 Workshop Manual Section 419-10 for replacement procedure. Verify that the replacement DDM software date code is 6/9/2004 using the diagnostic scan tool.

NOTE
THE REPLACEMENT DDM SHOULD COME LABELED WITH A STICKER THAT SAYS "AUTOLOCK AND HORN CHIRP FIXED - SOFTWARE DATE 06-09-04".
