Flow of Diagnosis
1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the power windows/heated back window to duplicate the concern.2. Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply:
VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
Mechanical
- Door power window regulator damaged.
- Window run damaged.
- Door window glass out of window run.
- Door window glass broken.
Electrical
- Loose, corroded connectors.
- Damaged window regulator control switch.
- Damaged window regulator electric drive.
- Open fuse in fuse junction panel Fuse 39 (10 A), 28 (10 A), 30 (10 A), 26 (10 A), 31 (15 A), 1 (10 A), 13 (15 A).
- Open fuse in power distribution box Fuse 8 (40 A) maxi, 5 (40 A) maxi, 8 (30 A) mini, 3 (30 A) mini.
- Scratched grid.
3. If the inspection reveals obvious concerns that can be readily identified, service as required.
4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the NGS menu. If the NGS does not communicate with the vehicle:
- check that the program card is properly installed.
- check the connections to the vehicle.
- check the ignition switch position.
If the NGS switch does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the New Generation Star Tester manual.
5. Perform the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST using the NGS. If the NGS responds with:
- CKT 914 or CKT 915 = ALL MODULE NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to Communication System Diagnostics in Information Bus to diagnose the network concern.
- NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for the Driver Door Module (DDM), go to Pinpoint Test A.
- NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for the Lighting Control Module (LCM), go to Pinpoint Test B.
- If the DDM is not listed for a communication concern, turn the ignition switch to RUN, make sure all doors are closed, retrieve and record the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, then execute the Self Test Diagnostics for the DDM. If the DDM exits diagnostic state during the self-test and returns to normal operation state, go to Pinpoint Test A.
- If the LCM is not listed for a communication concern, turn the ignition switch to RUN, retrieve and record the continuous DTCs, erase the continuous DTCs, then execute the Self Test Diagnostics for the LCM. If the LCM exits diagnostic state during the self-test and returns to normal operation state, go to Pinpoint Test B.
6. If the DDM DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Driver Door Module (DDM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue the diagnostics.
7. If the LCM DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Lighting Control Module (LCM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue the diagnostics.
8. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to the Symptom Chart to continue the diagnostics.
