Passive Anti-Theft Alarm System (Pats)
NOTE:^ The Lighting Control Module (LCM) must be reconfigured upon replacement. Refer to the New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester help screen on the configuration card to program the headlamps on with wipers, daytime running lamp and Korean vehicle strategy.
^ The PATS must be reconfigured upon replacement of the instrument cluster. Refer to the PATS Configuration Command Index. For additional reprogramming assistance, refer to the help screen on the New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester configuration card.
1. Verify the customer concern by duplicating the condition.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.
VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
Mechanical
^ Ignition lock cylinder
^ Encoded ignition key (PATS key)
^ Use of non-encoded ignition key (key without the molded plastic head, non-PATS key)
^ Use of a non-programmed encoded ignition key
Electrical
^ Fuse:
- Fuse 26 (10 A)
- Fuse 5 (10 A)
- Fuse 11 (10 A)
^ PATS transceiver
^ Connectors
^ Ignition switch
3. If the concern remains after the inspection connect the New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the NGS menu. If the NGS Tester does not communicate with the vehicle:
^ check that the program card is properly installed.
^ check the connections to the vehicle.
^ check the ignition switch position.
4. If NGS Tester still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the New Generation STAR Tester manual.
5. Perform the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If NGS Tester responds with:
^ CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Module Communications Network.
^ NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for Virtual Image Cluster (VIC), go to Pinpoint Test A. A: No Communication With The Module - Virtual Image Cluster
^ NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for Lighting Control Module (LCM), go to Pinpoint Test B. B: No Communication With Module - Unable to Test LCM
^ SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and perform self-test diagnostics for the VIC.
6. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to VIC Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index or LCM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics. Passive Anti-Theft Alarm System (PATS)
7. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Passive Anti-Theft Alarm System (Pats)
