Removal and Replacement

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery cables then remove battery and battery tray.
2. Remove two accelerator control splash shield attaching screws.
3. Open luggage compartment and ensure air suspension switch is turned off.
4. Disconnect intake air temperature sensor and mass air flow sensor electrical connectors from air cleaner assembly.
5. Disconnect air cleaner assembly hoses and tubes, then remove air cleaner assembly.
6. Disconnect transaxle harness and range sensor electrical connectors.
7. Remove shift actuator cable fitting, shift actuator cable nut, and disconnect cable from shift cable bracket.
8. Install two engine lifting eyes tool No. D81L-6001-D or equivalent to front and rear of engine.
9. Install three bar engine support bracket set tool No D88L-6000-A or equivalent and support engine assembly.
10. Raise and support vehicle.
11. Place a drain pan under transaxle, then loosen lower pan retaining bolts and drain transaxle fluid.
12. Remove transaxle pan bolts.
13. After fluid has completely drained from transaxle reinstall transaxle pan.
14. Remove front tire and wheel assemblies.
15. Depressurize air suspension system and disconnect height sensors.
16. Remove two cotter pins, two nuts, and disconnect tie rod ends from steering knuckles.
17. Remove two nuts and disconnect stabilizer bar links from stabilizer bar.
18. Remove two nuts and separate lower control arm from steering knuckles.
19. Install puller tool No. T86P-3514-A1 or equivalent, between constant velocity joint and transaxle case. Turn steering hub and/or wire strut assembly out of the way.
20. Screw extension, tool No. T86P-3514-A2 or equivalent, into constant velocity joint puller and hand tighten. Screw impact slide hammer, tool No. D79P-100-A or equivalent onto extension.
21. Remove constant velocity joint from transaxle.
22. Support end of halfshaft by suspending it from a conventional underbody component with a length or wire.

CAUTION: Do not allow shaft to hang unsupported, damage to the outboard constant velocity Joint may result

23. Separate outboard constant velocity joint from hub using front hub remover tools No. T81P-1104-0, T83P-1104-BH, T86P-1104-A1, and T81P-1104-A or equivalents.

CAUTION: Never use a hammer to separate the outboard constant velocity Joint stub shaft from the hub. Damage to the constant velocity joint threads and internal components may result.
24. Remove halfshaft assemblies from vehicle.
25. Disconnect three oxygen sensor electrical connectors.
26. Remove three bolts, nine nuts, and Y-pipe assembly from vehicle.
27. Remove splash shield from front subframe and radiator support.
28. Support power steering gear with wire to secure power steering housing in position.
29. Remove ball joint nut from under steering knuckle, then separate lower arm from steering knuckle.
30. Remove two nuts that attach power steering gear to front subframe.
31. Remove power steering return hose to front subframe retaining screws, then position hose of the way.
32. Disconnect ride height sensor links at front suspension lower arms.
33. Remove lefthand and righthand front engine support insulator retaining nuts.
34. Remove engine and transaxle support insulator to front subframe attaching bolts.
35. Support front subframe with adjustable jacks.
36. Remove left and right front subframe body insulator braces.
37. Remove front subframe to body attaching bolts.
38. With help from an assistant, lower subframe from vehicle.
39. Remove starter motor retaining nuts, then disconnect starter motor electrical connector.
40. Remove starter motor bolt and stud, then the starter motor.
41. Position suitable transmission jack under transaxle.
42. Remove lower engine to transaxle bolts.
43. Remove two bolts and one nut on righthand side engine mount to transaxle case.
44. Slowly lower transaxle from vehicle, ensure no obstructions exist.

INSTALLATION
1. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten all fasteners.
