GLASS - DOOR - "HESITATES" OR "CHATTERS" WHEN CYCLED DOWN - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 1/31/93

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1993 MARK VIII

ISSUE:
Door glass may hesitate or chatter on the downward cycle half way down, resulting in slow cycle time.

ACTION:
Remove door panel and inspect for worn or damaged window runs. Inspect door glass and adjust. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

INSPECTION AND SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Open the door and remove the door trim panel and water shield as outlined in Section 01-05 of the Service Manual.





2. Remove the door glass and inspect the front lower glass run for wearing or tears. A worn or damaged glass run indicates a defect in the glass. If the run is damaged, replace the run and glass. Refer to Figure 1.





3. Inspect the glass stabilizer bracket. If the bracket is in the highest position on the door inner panel slot, loosen it, lower it into the lowest position on the slot and tighten. Refer to Figure 2.





4. Remove the inner beltline weather strip. Refer to Figure 3.

a. Cut off the lower inside lip of the weatherstrip and reinstall to door.

5. Retest cycle time to specification of less than 0.4 seconds, full up to down.

6. Reinstall water shield and door trim panel.
