LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1993 MARK VIII
ISSUE:
An interior "squeak" from the rear of the vehicle may be caused by the rear window exterior moulding contacting the rear package tray painted sheet metal. Another cause of the "squeak" may be due to the interior quarter trim panels (angel wings) contacting the back window glass.
ACTION:
Lubricate the moulding lip with "Krytox" oil and/or file the interior quarter trim panel edges to eliminate the "squeaks". Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Open the decklid.
2. Lift up on the rear window mouldings and apply "Krytox" oil lubricant to the underside of the entire length of the moulding lip, Figure 1.
3. Lift the moulding lip contacting the quarter panel outboard of the decklid to locate the foam stops, Figure 1. Apply "Krytox" oil all around the foam stops.
4. If "squeak" persists, check for the interior quarter trim panel (angel wing) contacting the rear window glass. A 3"x 5" index card may be used like a feeler gauge to locate contact points.
5. Remove the quarter trim panel(s). Refer to the 1993 Mark VIII Service Manual, Section 01-05, for the removal procedure.
6. Sand or file the edges to prevent contact with the glass.
7. Install the quarter trim panel(s). Refer to the 1993 Mark VIII Service Manual, Section 01-05, for the installation procedure.
