Electronic Climate Control
The Automatic Temperature control(ATC) System automatically maintains a selected temperature by regulating the temperature of discharge air, fan speed and location of discharge air (floor ducts, defroster nozzle, and panel registers). The system also allows the driver to manually set the location of the discharge air and fan speed, as described below, for desired comfort or specific operating requirements.
Warm
Pressing the WARM button raises the temperature setting. Pressing the button once raises the temperature one degree. Holding the button in raises the temperature setting in one degree increments until the button is released or 85~F (20~C) is reached.
If the button is pressed after reaching 85~F (29~C), only 90~F (32~C) will be displayed, and the ATC System will provide continuous maximum heating.
Cool
Pressing the COOL button lowers the temperature setting. Pressing the button once lowers the temperature by one degree, Holding the button in reduces the temperature setting in one degree increments until the button is released or 65~F (15~C) is reached. If the button is pressed after 65~F (18~C) is reached, only 60~F (15~C) will be displayed, and the climate control system will provide continuous maximum cooling.
Off
Pressing the OFF/AUTO button once when in AUTO turns the system off. All the function indicator lights and the temperature display will be off. The system can be reactivated by pushing any of the seven function buttons.
Auto
Pressing the OFF/AUTO button once when not in AUTO puts the system in fully automatic operation (only the OFF/AUTO indicator light will light).
The ATC System provides comfort (in the AUTO position) consistent with the temperature setting. The discharge air temperature, fan speed and discharge location will be automatically set to quickly bring the car to the set temperature and then maintain that temperature. Setting the temperature higher or lower than the comfort setting will not heat or cool the car faster than when set at the desired temperature.
The A/C compressor is automatically engaged by the control assembly when in AUTO, as long as the ambient temperature is above 50~F.
During cool/cold weather, the fan stays off when in AUTO until the engine reaches operating temperature.
The air conditioner and heater are automatically controlled to achieve the proper discharge air temperature. The instrument panel registers can be tilted up or down, side to side, or closed to maintain comfort.
Blower Speed Overrides
Low: Pressing LO fixes the blower speed on low.
Medium: Pressing LO and HI at the same time fixes the blower speed in medium.
High: Pressing HI fixes the blower speed on high.
NOTE: Air discharge location will continue to be controlled automatically unless override buttons (e.g., VENT, A/C, FLOOR, DEFROST) are pushed.
Air Discharge Location Overrides
Vent: Pressing the VENT button directs air flow from the panel registers. The A/C compressor will not operate. Discharge air can be heated, but not cooled below outside air temperature.
A/C: Pressing the A/C button directs air flow from the panel registers. The A/C compressor will operate, as long as outside air temperature is about 50~F.
PNL/FLR: Pressing the A/C and Floor buttons at the same time splits the discharge air flow between and panel registers and the floor ducts.
FLOOR: Pressing the FLOOR button directs the discharge air flow from the flow ducts.
FLR/DEF: Pressing the FLOOR and defrost buttons at the same time splits the discharge air flow between the defroster and floor outlets.
DEFROST: Pressing the defrost button directs discharge air flow from the defroster outlets.
