Electronic Day/Night Mirror

The Electronic Day/Night Mirror has a mirror face with variable reflectivity. The mirror face changes from highly reflective (the normal position) to slightly reflective (the non-glare position) when light sensors (photocells), built into the Electronic Day/Night Mirror, detect light.

With the Ignition Switch in START or RUN, voltage is present at the Electronic Day/Night Mirror through Fuse 18 and circuit 640 (R/Y) to power the Mirror.

When the Electronic Day/Night Mirror is turned on, the DISTANCE control, located at the bottom of the unit, determines the Mirror's sensitivity to light.

When the transmission selector is placed in REVERSE, circuits 298 (P/O) and 140 (BK/PK) are connected in the Backup Lamp/Neutral Safety Switch and voltage is applied to the Electronic Day/Night Mirror on circuit 140 (BK/PK). This signal deactivates the Mirror to insure that the driver has a bright, clear view in the mirror when backing up.
