Shift Interlock: Description and Operation

With the Ignition Switch in RUN, the Shift Lock Actuator prevents the driver from shifting the automatic transmission out of PARK unless the brake pedal is depressed.

NOTE: If the gear selector cannot be shifted out of Park with the Ignition Switch in RUN and the brake pedal depressed, follow these step:

^ Turn Ignition to OFF
^ Move shift lever to NEUTRAL
^ Start the engine
^ Shift into DRIVE
