LAMPS - DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (DRL) ON WITH KEY IN "ACC" POSITION - REWORK PROCEDURE - CANADIAN VEHICLES ONLY

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1992 CONTINENTAL

ISSUE:
The Daytime Running Lights may have the headlamps come on when the key is in the accessory position. The lights cannot be turned off with the parking brake, as is the case with normal DRLs.

ACTION:
Modify the power feed to the Blower Motor Speed Controller from HOT IN RUN OR ACC TO HOT IN RUN ONLY. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

DRL Wiring Revisions

1. Open the glove box and depress the sides at the rubber stops to lower the glove box completely.





2. Locate and disconnect the blower motor speed controller connector (C229) and the speed control amplifier connector (C282), Figure 1.

3. Fabricate from stock and splice in a 15" (375 mm) jumper wire to Circuit 298 (Purple/Orange) about 20 (50 mm) back from connector, Figure 1.

NOTE:
MAKE SURE THE SPLICE IS COMPLETELY COVERED AND SEALED.

4. Cut circuit 326 (White/Purple) 2" (50 mm) back from Blower Motor Speed Controller connector, Figure 1.

a. Tape back the loose harness end to the wire harness.

b. Splice the loose end of jumper wire to the 2" (50 mm) wire in the blower motor speed controller connector.

NOTE:
MAKE SURE THE SPLICE IS COMPLETELY COVERED AND SEALED.

5. Reconnect both connectors (C229 and C282), Figure 1.

6. Secure the jumper wire to the bracket (045A78) in the instrument panel above the blower motor speed controller connector (C229) with electrical tape to route the wire away from the glove box.

7. Recheck to ensure all connections are properly made.

8. Check the jumper wire position to ensure it does not interfere with glove box movement.

9. Return the glove box to its original position.
