Safing Sensor: Service and Repair

Removal

WARNING: THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT NECESSARY FOR SYSTEM DEPLOYMENT IS POWERED DIRECTLY FROM THE BATTERY. TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE MUST BE DISCONNECTED PRIOR TO SERVICING OR REPLACING ANY SYSTEM COMPONENTS.

NOTE: To repair stripped rear sensor retaining screws, replace screws with 6 mm self-tapping screws. Tighten to 2.7-3.7 N.m (23-32 lb-in).

1. Disconnect positive battery cable.





2. Disconnect the rear sensor wiring connector from wiring assembly connector.
3. Remove two screws retaining rear sensor to dash panel.
4. Remove rear sensor from dash panel in engine compartment.

Installation
1. Position sensor to dash panel.
2. Secure sensor with two retaining screws. Tighten to 3.3-4.5 N.m (29-40 lb-in).
3. Connect rear sensor wiring connector to wiring assembly connector.
4. Connect positive battery cable.
5. Verify air bag indicator.
