Removal and Installation


NOTE: Removal and installation of the instrument panel is best accomplished by two people.

Removal and Installation

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect all underhood electrical connectors of main wiring harness. Disengage rubber grommet from dash panel.
3. Remove RH and LH sound insulator assemblies from under instrument panel and remove bulb and socket assemblies from each insulator.
4. Remove four screws retaining steering column opening trim cover and remove cover.







5. Remove steering column opening lower steel reinforcement.







6. Remove RH and LH cowl trim panels.
7. Remove five steering column trim shroud screws and remove shrouds.

8. Disconnect all electrical connections (quick couplers from the steering column switches).
9. Remove four nuts retaining steering column to support. Lower steering column to rest on the seat cushion.
10. Remove defroster opening grille panel (snaps out).

NOTE: Grille has one retaining tab holding it in position.

11. Remove screws retaining floor console to instrument panel and floor. Move console rearward.







12. Remove two screws retaining instrument panel to floor. Remove three screws retaining instrument panel to cowls.Remove bolt attaching instrument panel to parking brake support plate.





















13. Disconnect the main harness in the following areas:
a. Behind instrument panel
b. RH side of steering column support
c. At blower motor
d. RH cowl panel
e. LH cowl panel

14. Disconnect radio antenna lead from radio. Disconnect any vacuum hoses attached to instrument panel.

15. Remove RH and LH A-pillar garnish mouldings.
16. Remove three screws retaining instrument panel to dash panel and pull/push 14401 harness and connectors into passenger compartment. Remove instrument panel.
17. If instrument panel is being replaced, transfer all components, wiring and retaining hardware to new instrument panel, if necessary.
18. To install, reverse Steps 1 through 16. After installing instrument panel, check all components to ensure proper operation.

NOTE: When installing steering column to support bracket, tighten the four retaining nuts to 27-50 N.m (20-37 lb-ft).
