Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

Fuel Supply Manifold:





1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and secure it out of the way.
2. Remove fuel cap.
3. Release pressure from fuel system.
4. Remove upper intake manifold, as outlined in this section.
5. Remove fuel supply manifold, as outlined in this section.
6. Remove injector retaining clips as required.
7. Carefully remove the electrical harness connectors from individual injectors.

Fuel Injector:





8. Grasping injector body, pull up while gently rocking injector from side to side.
9. Inspect injector O-rings (two per injector) for signs of deterioration. Replace as required.
10. Inspect injector "plastic hat" (covering the injector pintle) and washer for signs of deterioration. Replace as required.

INSTALLATION

1. Lubricate new O-rings with a light grade oil and install two on each injector.
NOTE: Never use silicone grease. It will clog the injectors.
2. Install injector(s). Use a light, twisting, pushing motion to install them.
3. Connect injector retaining clips.
4. Install fuel rail assembly, as outlined in this section.
5. Install electrical harness connectors to injections.
6. Connect battery ground cable.
7. Add engine coolant.
8. Turn key ON/OFF several times without starting engine to check for fuel leaks.
CAUTION: The fuel system is normally pressurized to 39 psi.
9. Start engine and warm to operating temperature. check for coolant leak if coolant was removed.
