ISSUE: A temporary speed change (surge) with the speed control engaged or a "VIP" test failure may be caused by a combination of unwanted electrical signals from the charging system and ignition system. These electrical signals might produce an unstable signal in the speed sensor ground circuit #683.


ACTION: Connect the speed sensor ground wire (circuit #683) to the chassis ground in the engine compartment. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

FIGURE 1:

1. Locate the purple wire with a light blue tracer at connector C163 in the 14290 wire harness, Figure 1.

2. Splice a 16 AWG ground wire to circuit #683 near connector C163. Use a waterproof butt splice connector.

3. Route the spliced wire behind the battery. Make sure the wire does not interfere with normal engine operation or maintenance.

4. Attach an eyelet, (E80Y-14294-A) to the end of the spliced wire.

5. Using a sheet metal screw, (N801846-S36MG), attach the eyelet to the radiator support next to the battery ground.
