LAMP - CORNERING - MOISTURE INSIDE LENS - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 12/06/87

Article No. 88-3-1

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1988 CONTINENTAL

ISSUE: Moisture on the inside of the cornering lamp lens may be caused by the location of the drain hole. The drain hole is located in an area that does not allow the lamp to completely drain if water happens to get inside.

ACTION: To correct this, drill a 5/32" (4 mm) drain hole in the bottom front edge of each cornering lamp. Refer to the following service procedure.

1. Remove both front cornering lamps from the vehicle.

2. Inspect both cornering lamps for cracks or other damage. If damaged, obtain a new cornering lamp.

NOTE: The service replacement cornering lamp may already have the drain hole located in the proper area as indicated in Step 3.

4. Dry the inside of the cornering lamp lens with compressed air if necessary.

NOTE: Make sure the drill shavings are cleaned out of the inside of the cornering lamp before reinstallation into the vehicle.

5. Reinstall both front cornering lamps.
