Update Prior to Sale: Liftgate Release Sticking

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Range Rover Sport (LS)

VIN: CA717166 - CA722555 (specific vehicles only)
Model Year: 2012

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation:
A potential concern has been identified on a limited number of vehicles with the liftgate which may fail to open when the release button is pressed.

Action:
Retailers are required to HOLD all affected vehicles in the above VIN range that are in their control and refrain from releasing the vehicles for new or used vehicle sale pending completion of the rework action detailed in this Technical Bulletin. Vehicles must not be released until the liftgate striker spacer has been removed and the striker plate has been repositioned. Refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below.

For cars in Retailer inventory, this Update Prior to Sale should be performed in conjunction with the vehicle Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI). For those vehicles already in the hands of customers, this should be done at the next available opportunity.

NOTE:
Always check DDW to verify that the vehicle is affected by this Update Prior to Sale notice or any other campaign prior to undertaking any repair as some vehicles may have been repaired in port. DDW reflects only those vehicles affected and un-repaired.

NOTE:
Repair procedures are under constant review and therefore times and prices are subject to change; those quoted here must be taken as guidance only. Always refer to DDW to obtain the latest repair time.

Warranty claims should be submitted quoting the Program Code 'Q171' together with the relevant Option Code; this will result in payment of the stated time. As Option Codes are used, there is no requirement to enter SRO information; these are displayed for information only. The option that allows for drive in / drive out may only be claimed if the vehicle is brought back into the workshop for this action alone to be undertaken.





This Update Prior to Sale notice is valid for a limited time only and will expire on 04 April 2012. All Warranty claims up to this date must be submitted for payment within 30 days of completion of the repair.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

REPOSITION LIFTGATE STRIKER

1. Open liftgate.





2. Remove the trim. (Figure 1)

NOTE:
Using a suitable marker, mark the fitted position of the striker prior to removal.





3. Remove the striker assembly: (Figure 2) Remove the two Torx bolts.





4. Remove and discard the striker spacer. (Figure 3)

NOTE:
Re-position the striker from the original marks to allow for the spacer that has been removed.





5. Install the striker: (Figure 4)

Tighten the two Torx bolts to 25 Nm.





6. Install the trim. (Figure 5)

7. If required, refer to Workshop Manual, section 201-12:

Liftgate Striker Adjustment, and adjust the liftgate striker.

8. Close liftgate.
