Removal
WARNING: Persons working on the supplemental restraint system (SRS) must be fully trained and have been issued with the safety guidelines.
WARNING: Allow a period of 10 minutes to elapse after disconnecting the battery before undertaking any work on the SRS.
WARNING: The SRS electrical connectors are unique. DO NOT force, or attempt to connect electrical connectors to the wrong sockets.
WARNING: The correct procedures must always be used when working on SRS components.
WARNING: It is imperative that before any work is undertaken on the SRS system, the appropriate information is read thoroughly.
WARNING: Always disconnect both battery cables before beginning work on the SRS system. Disconnect the ground cable first. Never reverse connect the battery.
WARNING: Take extra care when handling SRS components.
1. Make the air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) safe.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
CAUTION: Make sure the steering is in the straight ahead position.
3. Remove and discard, the steering column flexible coupling clamp bolt.
4. Remove the clockspring housing assembly.
5. Remove the floor console extension trim panel.
6. Release the driver side closing trim panel.
^ Remove the 4 screws.
^ Remove the clip.
7. Remove the driver side closing trim panel.
^ Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
^ Release the vehicle diagnostic socket.
8. Disconnect the tilt motor and steering column lock electrical connectors.
^ Release the wiring harness fir tree clip.
9. Disconnect the steering column telescopic motor electrical connector.
10. Disconnect the steering wheel rotation sensor electrical connector.
11. With assistance, remove the steering column.
^ Remove the 4 bolts.
^ Remove the steering column in an upwards direction out through the bulkhead seal.
NOTE:
Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.
12.Remove the steering wheel rotation sensor.
^ Remove the 3 screws.
Installation
1. Install the steering wheel rotation sensor.
^ Tighten the screws to 3 Nm (2 ft. lbs.).
CAUTION: Make sure the steering is in the straight ahead position.
2. With assistance, install the steering column.
^ Install and tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
3. Connect the steering wheel rotation sensor electrical connector.
4. Connect the steering column telescopic motor electrical connector.
5. Connect the tilt motor and steering column lock electrical connectors.
^ Secure the wiring harness clip.
6. Install the driver side closing trim panel.
^ Attach the vehicle diagnostic socket.
^ Connect the electrical connectors.
7. Secure the driver side closing trim panel.
^ Install the screws.
^ Install the clip.
8. Install the floor console extension trim panel.
9. Install the clockspring.
10. Install a new steering column flexible coupling clamp bolt.
^ Tighten the bolt to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
11. Connect the battery ground cable.
12. Initiate the steering angle sensor using the Land Rover approved diagnostic system.
