Differential Assembly - Align, Front
54.10.03.01 Differential assembly - alignTo be used in conjunction with any procedure where the differential assembly has been disturbed.
Check
1. This operation starts with the propeller shaft fitted to the differential drive tube, without the O-ring fitted.
CAUTION: It is important that during this alignment 'check' procedure, the differential is not free to rotate.
2. Slide the propeller forwards and fit the centering flange to the propeller shaft. Secure, but do not tighten with a nut and bolt.
3. Rotate the centering flange to allow the alignment tool to be placed in position.
4. Remove one slider from alignment tool LRT- 54-032.
5. Fit alignment tool LRT-54-032 to transfer gearbox output flange.
6. Loosen Allen screw to allow slider to move freely along LRT-54-032.
7. Rotate centering flange to align with propeller shaft and tighten nut and bolt.
8. Slide propeller shaft rearwards until it contacts the face of LRT-54-032.
NOTE: It may be necessary to slide the propeller shaft, together with the alignment tool, slightly forwards. This will allow the alignment tool to be extracted slightly from the locating bush in the transfer gearbox front output flange, enabling the slider to move freely.
9. Ensure LRT-54-032 is vertical and slider is below centering flange spigot.
10. Lightly pull propeller shaft down to it's lowest position. With propeller shaft held down move slider up to bottom of centering flange spigot and tighten slider Allen screw.
11. Note measurement on LRT-54-032 at the inside edge of the slider.
NOTE: The alignment tool may have to be rotated into a horizontal position to note the measurement.
12. Loosen Allen screw to allow slider to move freely along LRT-54-032.
13. Ensure LRT-54-032 is vertical and slider is above centering flange spigot.
14. Slide propeller shaft rearwards until it contacts the face of LRT-54-032.
15. Lightly push propeller shaft up to its highest position. With propeller shaft held up, move slider down to top of centering flange spigot and tighten Allen screw.
16. Note measurement on LRT-54-032 at the inside edge of the slider.
NOTE: The alignment tool may have to be rotated into a horizontal position to note the measurement.
17. If the 2 noted measurements are identical or within 1 mm. the front differential is correctly aligned.
Adjust
1. To centralize the propeller shaft, the front differential must be adjusted. Calculate the average of the 2 noted measurements to establish the 'target' measurement.
2. Loosen the slider LRT-54-032 and set slider to the 'target' measurement.
3. Loosen the 4 bolts securing the front differential the minimum amount to allow the differential to rotate on its spigot.
4. Move front differential unit as required to achieve' target' measurement. If measurement was greater below, use LRT-54-032 with slider positioned above and raise propeller shaft until its spigot meets inside edge of slider. If the measurement was greater above, use LRT-54-032 with the slider positioned below and lower propeller shaft until its spigot meets inside edge of slider.
5. Tighten bolts securing the front differential to 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.).
6. Using LRT-54-032 ensure the measurement above and below the centering flange spigot and its locating bush is now equal.
7. Remove the nut and bolt securing the centering flange to propeller shaft and remove the centering flange.
8. Remove LRT-54-032.
9. Remove front propeller shaft.
10. Fit new O-ring to differential output drive tube.
11. Lubricate all differential drive tube and propeller shaft splines with TIA 500010 grease.
