SITUATION:

INOPERATIVE NAV DISPLAY

Vehicles can exhibit a condition where the NAV display will not function in cold ambient conditions. Cold temperature can affect the internal communications during NAV system start-up. * The condition may also cause a loss of radio functions during the warm-up period. Both radio and NAV will return to normal operations once the vehicle has warmed.*

RESOLUTION:

INSTALLATION OF NEW SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION

* When a customer complains of the blank screen symptoms, update the Satellite Navigation system software utilizing the latest navigation CD (LRL0568 Edition 3).*

REPAIR PROCEDURE

INSTALL NEW NAV SOFTWARE OBSERVING ALL CAUTIONS AND NOTES TO PREVENT NAV COMPUTER DAMAGE

NOTE:
It is important to ensure that the engine remains running until the software re-configuration procedure is complete and that electrical loads are minimized.

1. Apply handbrake and start the engine.

2. Verify that the radio/audio system is turned off.

3. Turn off all possible electrical loads such as air conditioning and heated seats.

CAUTION:
Switching off the ignition during the software re-configuration procedure may cause the Satellite Navigation system to malfunction.

4. * Open the tailgate to access the Satellite Navigation system control unit. Pull off the luggage compartment trim panel on the left hand side on New Range Rover.*

NOTE:
Inserting a map CD into the Satellite Navigation system for approximately one minute will ensure that the Satellite Navigation system is out of its "safe transit" mode and allow it to subsequently save the updated software.

5. Insert customer's navigation map CD into the Satellite Navigation system for at least one minute.

CAUTION:
It is very important that the re-configuration procedure is not interrupted during the software update time. Doors may not be opened or closed. Buttons may NOT be pressed and the ignition MUST NOT be switched off, or system malfunction may occur.

NOTE:
The system will automatically load the software. The screen will alternately darken and lighten for up to 20 seconds and may flicker or display German text. A message will appear warning that software will be loaded, followed by a bar graph showing progress. The software re-configuration procedure will take several minutes. The CD will automatically be ejected and the system will request you to remove the CD when the download is complete.

6. * After at least one minute, remove the map CD and insert the software CD (LRL0568 issue 3).*

7. Ensure that no interruption to the software download process occurs.

CAUTION:
There MUST NOT be a CD in the Satellite Navigation system when "OK" is pressed.

8. When the software re-configuration procedure is complete, remove the software CD.

9. After the software CD is removed, press "OK".

NOTE:
The Satellite Navigation system will shut down and restart. This may take up to a minute. This operation must not be interrupted.

10. Wait for the Satellite Navigation system to shut down and then restart.

11. When the main menu screen has returned to the display, insert the map CD into the Satellite Navigation system.

12. Leave the tailgate open, switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key.

CAUTION:
Opening or closing vehicle doors during NAV shutdown will restart the shutdown timer each time, prolonging the shutdown period. The red power LED indicator will go out when the Satellite Navigation system computer is shut down.

13. Wait approximately 60 seconds without closing any doors and observe that the red power LED on the NAV computer is extinguished.

14. Switch on the ignition, and verify that the Satellite Navigation system powers up correctly displaying the Land Rover logo.

15. Switch off the ignition.

16. * If removed, install the trim panel in the left hand side of the luggage compartment.*
