Freelander Exhaust Noise

Some Freelander exhaust Systems have a slip joint that has been manufactured out of specification. The slot in the outer pipe has been cut too long so that the clamp at the joint does not completely cover the slot. This leaves a leak path opening up to 3 mm (1/8 inch) in length with the potential for an increased noise level.

The joint is after the catalysts, so no other adverse effects or emissions problems will be encountered. (Figure 1)

Land Rover has arranged to provide a wider clamp to cover the elongated slot, but parts supply cannot be provided until after the holiday season. Should a customer complain of this exhaust noise, Retailers can apply a small amount of exhaust putty into the exposed end of the joint slot. This temporary repair will only be required until the TIB is issued with parts information and repair instructions.
