SERVICE ACTION Updated NAV Software
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Range Rover (LP) with factory installed NAV 1A450072 to 452999
SITUATION:
NAVIGATION "HOP" CAN CAUSE INCORRECT DIRECTIONS
The customer may complain that the positioning icon on the map display can occasionally "jump" off the route and back on again. Sometimes the display will appear to be moving parallel to the route of travel. In some circumstances these symptoms could lead to incorrect directions at intersections.
A vehicle warming up in cold temperatures may be more susceptible to the symptoms.
RESOLUTION:
VERIFY UPDATED NAVIGATION SOFTWARE IS INSTALLED
A revised software release V1.20 for the factory installed MK III navigation computer has been introduced. Disc VDW000020 can be used to update the navigation computer software to the latest specification. To ensure that your customer has the revised software a system software update should be carried out "Free of Charge" at the next service opportunity on vehicles within the VIN range.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
SOFTWARE UPDATE PROCEDURE
1. Set the handbrake and ensure "Park" is selected.
2. Turn ignition key to position "II."
CAUTION:
Ensure that electrical power is not interrupted during Navigation Computer programming. A power interruption will require replacement of the computer.
3. Remove any map CDs from the computer.
NOTE:
During the next step the display screen will flicker and darken to black. It will remain black for approximately 30 seconds.
4. Insert the VDW000020 software CD into the navigation computer.
NOTE:
Navigation software installation may take up to 6 minutes.
5. Wait for the instructions and status bar to appear on the display screen and observe screen messages during the software loading procedure.
NOTE:
When the loading process is completed:
^ The screen will display "Update is complete! Software Version 1.20- Language 1: American (James), Language 2: francais (voix feminine) OK Please remove CD and confirm with OK"
^ The CD will automatically eject from the computer
6. Remove the ejected software CD from the computer and confirm by pressing "OK."
NOTE:
The screen display will flicker and darken to black before the navigation system restarts with the new configuration.
7. Install the customer's map CD into the navigation computer.
TEST INSTALLATION OF NEW SOFTWARE
1. Place the navigation system into self test mode as follows:
^ Select the "Set" menu option.
^ Press and hold the "MENU" button until the system enters self test mode - approximately 10 seconds.
2. Select "Navigation/Graphic Element."
3. Verify that the software level (SW) displays "12."
LANGUAGE CHECK
1. From the Menu screen select "Set."
2. Select "Language."
3. Verify that desired language has been selected:
^ Language 1: American (James),
^ Language 2: francais (voix feminine)
4. When all programming is complete, switch off the ignition.
