SITUATION:

WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM NUT LOOSENS

During winter operation additional loads can occur to the wiper system if a customer fails to free a wiper from ice or heavy snow prior to operation. The wiper arms may loosen on the spindle taper under these conditions and fail to sweep consistently when switched on. Torque relaxation of wiper arm securing nuts may be a factor in this condition.

RESOLUTION:

CONTROL

If the wiper arm is confirmed to be loose on the tapered seat, replace both wiper arm-securing nuts with new nuts and ensure that the nuts are correctly torqued to the new specification.
