New Axle Level Plug Torque

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
DISCOVERY Series II (LT) All

SITUATION:
OVER-TORQUED OIL LEVEL PLUG DAMAGE

Excessive torque applied to front or rear axle oil level inspection plugs during routine maintenance can result in damage to the plug.

RESOLUTION:
TORQUE INSPECTION PLUGS ONLY TO NEW SPECIFIED VALUE

A revised maximum torque value is provided to ensure that plugs are not damaged during tightening after axle oil changes or inspections. Always ensure that the torque specification in this Bulletin is adhered to when tightening axle oil level inspection plugs.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

CAUTION:
Over-tightening the inspection plug can result in damage to the plug.





NOTE:
The Maintenance torque specification in Service Manual Section 10 of VDR100330 and on the Discovery Series II RAVE disc is INCORRECT. Ensure that all technical personnel are aware of this change in specification.

1. Tighten axle oil level inspection plugs to 4 Nm (36 lbf.in.) whenever installing plug after inspection or maintenance.
