Second Row Seat Squeak

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

DISCOVERY Series II (LT) Up to XA213375

SITUATION:

SECOND ROW SEAT SQUEAKS

Customers may complain of a squeaking noise coming from the second row 60/40 seat. This noise may be the result of insufficient clearance between the seat back trim panel and the hinge bodies.

RESOLUTION:

MATERIAL REMOVAL FROM SEAT BACK TRIM

If it is determined that the source of the squeaking noise is the seat back trim clearance, remove material from the trim piece to provide adequate clearance.

Modify 2nd Row Seat Back Panel

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

REMOVE MATERIAL FROM SEAT BACK HINGE APERTURES

1. Verify rear seat squeak is the result of seat back panel and hinge contact.

CARE POINT:
During material removal, take care not to leave visible signs of work (i.e. rough edges, extraneous cuts).

2. Rectify clearance problem for each side of the 60/40 seat as follows:

^ Remove seat back panel.





^ Carefully remove 3 mm (1/8 in.) of seat back panel material in each aperture allowing for clearance between hinge body and seat back panel along the horizontal edge of the aperture (Figure 1).

^ Refit seat back panel to seat frame.

3. Repeat step 2 for uncorrected side.

4. Verify seat squeak is eliminated.
